Gather deliberately
Loose sticks and plants get the first tools made. Use axes on trees and pickaxes on rock and ore; the right tool improves both speed and yield.

Every recipe, structure and vehicle on the island, plus the systems the game expects you to learn the hard way. Search it here. Survive it there.
01 / learn the island
The shortest route from an empty pack to a run that can survive its first Blood Moon.
Loose sticks and plants get the first tools made. Use axes on trees and pickaxes on rock and ore; the right tool improves both speed and yield.
Open crafting with C. A campfire handles cooking, a workbench unlocks the early industry, a forge makes metal, and the Chem Station handles advanced medicine and explosives.
Ordinary nights do not summon a horde: stay quiet or break line of sight and encounters remain local. Every 7th night is a Blood Moon; then the swarm knows where you are, walls buy time and traps thin the wave. Place them with B.
WASD or arrows move. Shift sprints. Space jumps while still and dodge-rolls while moving. Aim with the mouse; left-click attacks, gathers or places. Right-click uses the held consumable. E interacts, R reloads, F quick-heals, 1–8 selects the hotbar and Q drops the held stack.
Tab opens the 36-slot pack and gear. C crafts, B builds, P opens 12 perks and M opens the map. X cycles camera views; wheel zooms and Shift+wheel moves the 8-slot hotbar.
Left stick moves and right stick aims. RT acts, LT uses a consumable, A interacts, B reloads, X quick-heals and Y enters build mode. The bumpers run the hotbar; stick clicks dodge and sprint.
Phones get a movement stick, aim area, action cluster and touch routes through the pack and building controls. Panels accept taps directly. Turn the phone sideways before playing so the wider interface fits.
Hunger and thirst drain faster while sprinting. Low needs slow movement and stamina recovery; empty bars cost health. Health regenerates only when fed, hydrated, at a safe temperature, out of combat, not bleeding and lightly infected.
Night, rain, snow, wind, deep water and wet clothing pull temperature down. Fire and shelter pull it back. Swimming spends stamina; once it is empty, open water becomes lethal.
Bandages stop bleeding. Antibiotics and antidote attack infection; untreated infection grows and becomes fatal. Raw food and dirty water can cause sickness, so cook meat and boil water before a long journey.
A bedroll becomes the respawn point. On death, the game places a gravestone holding the previous pack; without a bed you wake near the original start. A recovery run is part of the cost.
Walking, sprinting, engines and gunfire create different alert radii. Quiet weapons and the bicycle keep encounters local; firearms, fast engines and the police siren can wake a corridor of the map.
Tools and weapons have durability. Strike a damaged structure with a Repair Hammer to restore it using a missing-HP share of its recipe; use build mode's REMOVE action (or right-click) to dismantle for a partial refund. Vehicles wear while driven—especially off road—and seize at zero condition until serviced. Each Engineer rank cuts structure and vehicle repair costs by 15%.
Farm Plots accept corn or herb seed, grow with rain and wait for harvest. Seasons change crop output, so a base that feeds itself in spring may need stored food in winter.
Equip a Fishing Rod and cast into water. Deep water bites sooner and Cut Bait shortens the wait. React to the bite, then cook the catch; raw fish carries sickness risk.
Recruit survivors from camps and tell them to follow, guard a position or forage near a crate. Revive a downed follower with a Medkit or Bandage; traders buy and sell one item at a time.
Chests, lockers and cabinets expand storage. Rain Catchers supply dirty water. A running, fuelled Generator powers Flood Lamps and Auto Turrets across the base.
The world spans 14336 simulation units and is generated from a seed. The same seed reproduces terrain, roads, ruins, points of interest, containers and vehicle wrecks.
Destroy every nest in a sector to secure it and stop ambient infected breeding there. Every sector awards XP; hive sectors also award a skill point.
Repair and light every transmitter, then call extraction at the marked site. The final hold lasts 120 seconds. Leaving and staying are both recorded endings.
Crafting, gathering, fighting, fishing, rebuilding vehicles, clearing sites and surviving nights award XP. Each level grants a skill point, while recipe and vehicle gates continue to read the survivor level and world progress.
A gentler collapse. Slower hunger, weaker hordes. Learn the ropes.
The intended experience. Fair, tense, unforgiving of mistakes.
Tougher infected, bigger waves, faster decay. For repeat offenders.
The infected hit harder. Blood Moon swarms are enormous. Good luck.
Long light. Use it while it lasts.
The year turns. Take what the ground still offers.
Short days. Out here the cold reaches you before they do.
Thaw. The ground remembers how to grow.

05 / cross the island
Wrecks spawn near fitting locations. Unlock the type, carry the rebuild bill, and bring a Tool Kit unless the card says otherwise. Motorised vehicles begin with a quarter tank. Service costs scale with missing condition; each card shows the full bill.
Someone's kid left it by the kerb, and the kerb is still there.
The chain is orange with rust but the frame never cared.
Two stroke, one seat, and a tank you could fill with a thermos.
It went down hard once and it is going to do it again.
Four doors, a boot, and whatever the last driver was carrying.
Whoever it was towing did not need it back.
Empty, and it has been empty a long time.
The back is still stocked. Nobody got as far as using it.
It was driving toward the fire when it stopped, which tells you everything.
The lights still work. That is the problem and the point.
